Severum has constipation/swim bladder, what do i do?

My severum has either constipation or swim bladder, it just swims up and down, mainly resting on the bottom. He has a massive appetite.

The fish has no other physical symptoms, and all my other fish are fine.

What do i use to treat him? i bought some aquarium salts and i have anti internal bacteria infection stuff. so do i use these together? Do these treatments work well for swim bladder/constipation? is there anything better that i can do?

Fish tank water should be very clean as it is not overstocked and the filter used is twice as good as needed.

What size tank is this?

Does not sound like swim bladder to me.

You may try withholding food for a day or two and then feed the inside of a few thawed peas – if he does have a blockage, that should help clear him out – and it isn’t a bad idea to do that every so often to help prevent digestive issues.

But in all reality, I don’t think it’s a swim bladder issue.

Sounds to me like he may be cramped for space and stressed. Severums get pretty good sized, and need a big tank (upwards of 55G). Also, if he’s with any aggressive tank-mates, that could cause him stress. Severums, while in the cichlid family, are fairly peaceful fish, and can be stressed if placed with more aggressive species.
