Meditation and Irritable Bowel Syndrome – Is There A Connection

ibs natural cure, meditation and irritable bowel syndrome - is there a connectionSpastic colon, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the term for a functional bowel disorder of the digestive system, that leads to such uneasy symptoms like abdominal pain, flatulence, cramping, bloating, and distinct changes in bowel habits. A lot of people with IBS experience frequent diarrhea and sudden, uncontrolled urges to use the toilet, and usually accompanied by incontinence.

It is noted that certain food and drinks, and everyday stresses of life, give some sudden, alternating bouts of constipation, diarrhea and abdominal pain. The pain is generally relieved by defecating or reduced by other triggers of gut motility. Patients generally feel no pain, however, when they are asleep. The symptoms of IBS usually start in adolescence. There are times, however, that you get all three symptoms at exactly the same time.

Most physicians and medical analysts agree that irritable bowel syndrome could be second only to the common cold as the most widespread and usual medical complaint of Americans. IBS is generally described as a functional condition, since there is no real diseased tissue at the time when the symptoms are occurring. IBS usually involves the muscular organs of the gastrointestinal tract; stomach, small intestine, the esophagus, gallbladder, and colon.

The "functional" term basically refers to the fact that either the muscles of the digestive system, or the nerves that control these organs, do not work properly. As a result, the digestive system does not work normally. The nerves that control the organs include, not only the nerves within the muscles of the organs, but also the nerves of the spinal cord and brain.

The role of hormones in IBS has not yet been fully analyzed and understood. Menstruation frequently exacerbates or triggers IBS symptoms, while pregnancy and menopause do either worsen or improve conditions. It is widely believed that hormone replacement therapy is associated with an increased risk of developing IBS.

Stress is a major factor, and meditation helps.

According to psychiatrists and gastroenterologists, there is an established connection between stress and an irritable bowel. During flare-ups of abdominal pain and cramping, it is important to take a deep breath and relax. Doing anything you can to help yourself unwind should be of great help in alleviating your symptoms. You can also benefit from a couple of relaxation methods, such as meditation, self-hypnosis, or biofeedback.

If the stresses you feel are particularly problematic, you could consider trying psychological counseling. The important thing is to find out what works well for you. Stress, panic attacks, tension and negative emotions are silent killers, they slowly erode your cognitive, psychological, as well as physical strength. As you do all you could to decrease the negative force you feel, through meditation, you should begin to experience a profound positive effect on your physical health, ranging from increased vitality to a greater, healthier sense of well being. Meditation and using self hypnosis may be considered as one of IBS natural cure.

Individuals with irritable bowel syndrome have an erratic intestinal system that overreacts to food, stress, and hormonal changes. Most analysts see irritable bowel as a built-in barometer, and a person could denote it as a gauge for overheating stress, or use it to help one determine what things, or problems in your life are affecting you most. Meditating often helps an individual assess himself, makes a person think and act properly without having to panic or lose the sense of control, and gain the ability to take the stresses in stride.

ibs natural cure, irritable bowel syndrome signs and symptoms,Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disorder which means that once you have it, you will continue to suffer with the symptoms. IBS causes abdominal pain that recurs. You may experience constipation, diarrhea, or alternate between them. Women are diagnosed with IBS twice as often as men and it is more common in those twenty to thirty years old. Sometimes referred to as spastic colon, spastic colitis, mucous colitis, or nervous diarrhea, colon, or bowel, these are all still the same condition.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a motility disorder of the gastrointestinal tract which has been shown to have no organic or structural cause. Symptoms mimic other disorders, making it difficult to diagnose since the symptoms are the only thing that can usually guide doctors to the cause. Diagnosis usually consists of the elimination of other possible conditions have been eliminated as the cause.

Symptoms that are used for diagnosis include the abdominal pain that comes and goes. Often, this pain disappears after a bowel movement but there is often diarrhea or constipation, or a combination of both symptoms. Abdominal distention that peaks in the evening and then disappears by morning, along with bloating also occur.

People who are diagnosed with IBS may also experience symptoms such as headache, low back pain, difficulty urinating, and fibromyalgia. Since these symptoms don’t have any connection with the gastrointestinal tract, they aren’t always associated as being a part of the same condition.

Alternative medicine and diagnosis are used by some sufferers of IBS. Herbs, special diets, and other natural remedies are used to alleviate symptoms.

Treatments for IBS

Patients suffering from any disease are given treatments to be able to get rid of it and as well as recover from its effects. This idea also applies to patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.

ibs, irritable bowel syndrome, ibs natural cure, There is a variety of different treatments in controlling IBS. There are treatments that involve therapies and there are others that involve alternative ways of treatments such as acupuncture and homeopathy. The most common way of treating the symptoms is with the use of drugs.

Natural remedies become more and more known and many IBS sufferers use them with very good result.  Bowtrol is one of such effective products.

There are two types of medicinal drugs that doctors may give a patient suffering from IBS. One type is the over the counter drugs while the alternative is prescription drugs.

As mentioned, there are two types to treat the symptoms of this syndrome. The first type is prescription drugs and the other is over the counter drugs. Prescription drugs are those that can’t be easily acquired by anyone at any pharmacy. To be able to get these drugs, you need to present a prescription duly signed by a qualified doctor.

Over the counter drugs, on the other hand, you can just buy in a pharmacy without presenting any prescription.

In treating irritable bowel syndrome, your physician would most likely suggest over the counter drugs initially. The purpose of these is to control the symptoms of the illness.

The most common over the counter drugs given to patients suffering from IBS are anti diarrhea medication, laxatives, and anti spasmodic. Anti diarrhea drugs are given to those patients who manifest one of the symptoms that is diarrhea.

Laxatives are given to patients who exhibit signs of constipation or somebody who reports of difficulty in defecating. Anti spasmodic drugs are given to those experiencing abdominal cramping. These over the counter medication are given while waiting for the results whether the person does indeed have irritable bowel syndrome.

Once it has been established that the patient is suffering from this syndrome, he or she will be given some prescription drugs if the physician sees the need to. But even when there is already some prescription drugs, the over the counter ones will still be maintained and continued. Remember that there is no perfect cure or treatment that can remove irritable bowel syndrome from your body. You need these over the counter ones to promote comfort and a "free from symptoms" life.
